When we look at ourselves, whether just reflecting or physically in the mirror, we most often look through our own eyes. We see an image through the lens of blurred vision. There is this standard set in our world about what we are "suppose" to look like, act like, and do to be successful. We see the magazines in the checkout aisle saying "these are the most beautiful people in the world". There are award shows that have 'after show' critiques of what every one wore and how their hair looked. There are movies that have happily ever after story lines and characters. There are advertisements that promise the 'perfect' body or happiness if we just buy that product. These are false standards set by people. They are not ones we should even try to compare ourselves too.
Sometimes we look in the mirror and we don't even see ourselves, but we see all of the labels we or someone else has attached to us throughout our lives. So we see ourselves through a distorted lens.
In the book Hinds Feet on High Places by Hannah Hurnard, Jesus is talking to the main character 'Much Afraid'. He says to her "I never think of you as you are now but as you will be..." I love that. God sees us as he created us. He doesn't see our labels, or the world's standards. He sees His workmanship, a representation of Him, His child whom he lovingly created. There are no labels when He sees us through His eyes.
I encourage you to step back and ask God to be able to see yourself through His eyes. Ask Him what He sees. I know what He sees He loves and He doesn't want you to try to be someone else. Your lens will be in focus once you do this. The key is to believe it.
It is easy to believe it for everyone else. It is easy to see others that way...but me? We think it can't be true...but my friend, it is true. It may take you a while to begin to believe it. It did for me. But as I read God's Word and memorized scripture, I realized I had no other choice than to start believing it. I love God...and I trust Him...and I know His Word is true.
In the magazine Everyday Life, Joyce Meyer wrote, "The tongue is like a pen and our heart is like a tablet. When you say something over and over, it gets on the inside of you and becomes you. It's not something you have to try to do anymore; it's who you are."
Make sure you are using your tongue to inscribe truth on your heart's tablet.
I pray you will seek and believe the truth of who God says you are.

I love the part where you say...sometimes we look in the mirror and don't even see ourselves, but the labels.....So true. Thanks for reminding us to see ourselves as HE does. I am covered with the blood and that is enough.
