On Monday I spent the day with Jack...he got a "free" day off of school...I will post pictures at of the bottom of this post of some of the things we did...just think...boy stuff! It was fun.
It was kind of a last minute thing. And in fact I tried to talk him out of it. I had too much to do. I had my day all planned out. I had a list. And it included my kids all at school for the day so I could check things off and get things DONE...because for the moment accomplishing tasks seemed important.
But God had other plans.
So Jack stayed home.
My plans changed.
At one point in the day I decided that because it was nice out, that I should go weed our side yard...so with Jack staying inside (he didn't want to go out at the time), I went to the side of our house. It is hidden behind our fence, so I can't see the house from where I was. I had my bucket and gloves and was determined to finish this one section of the yard. As I began to pull weeds God told me to go back to the house and spend time with Jack...that these weeds could wait...that I only get this one time with him...I resisted for a minute but the urgency was so strong that there was no denying that God really wanted me to stop right then. I went back to the house and asked Jack if he wanted to go in the back yard with me. He came out in his jammies (he wanted them on all day) and boots....such a boy.
Last year I dug out a vegetable garden in the backyard, so Jack and I headed over to it with shovels...and we weeded and dug and found bugs and worms. While I got weeds out, Jack and I talked about all kinds of things and played and spent the rest of the afternoon together. It was such a blessing. I am so happy that I was able to hear God speak to me and then take action on it.
Chores can wait.
Children can't wait.
Children can't wait.
Time is gone once it passes.
Spending that time investing in the people you love never passes.
Spending that time investing in the people you love never passes.
In the same way I was able to spend time with Jack, God wants us to spend time with Him. He wants us to be available to hear him and just hang out with him. He wants us to delight in our time with him. He wants us to sometimes let other things wait and know that eternally our time with Him is more important. I was still able to get a big project done...I really needed to clear out the weeds from the garden. But I had to change my original plan that included weeding a garden out front while Jack stayed in the house. God's plan was NOT MY original plan. God's plan was BETTER.
Deuteronomy 13:4 "Serve only the Lord your God and fear him alone. Obey his commands, listen to his voice, and cling to him."
When we serve God we hear him. When we serve God we will obey his voice. When we serve God we will want to cling to only him.
Let us serve HIM.
Let us fear HIM.
Let us obey HIM.
Let us listen to HIM.
Let us cling to HIM.
Spend time with God today. Be willing to shift your plan to be in alignment with what God is calling you to do today. Listen. Obey. Cling.
A day with Jack...my only boy...time that was not wasted....a change in my original plan...a better plan....
Jack used his pocket knife to make these sharp sticks...also known as a dissecting tool at least for this particular day. Another day it will be used as a different tool.
I pray you will listen for God to direct your day and that even if it means changing from YOUR original idea...that you will hear HIS voice.
In Love, Teresa
